About Ion Sportswear

Ion Sportswear was founded in 2015, with a vision to improving the quality of life utilizing the health benefits of electric microcurrents. Ion’s wearable bioelectric technology generates a microcurrent that stimulates the skin and underlying tissue. The microcurrent is generated when our proprietary zinc clothing contacts the skin. No batteries or wires are required. The oxygen at the skin’s surface combined with a patented zinc fiber pattern generates a low level electric current which mimics the body’s own natural electric activity. Ion has obtained three patents for its revolutionary technology.

The benefits of microcurrent skin stimulation have been known and well documented for decades. Clinical studies show that microcurrent stimulates the skin and underlying tissues including nerves, blood vessels, sweat glands and muscle. Electric microcurrents have been proven to have numerous and significant health benefits including but not limited to: improved blood circulation, increased tissue oxygenation, enhanced wound healing, rejuvenated muscle tissue, reduced sweating, pain relief and anti-microbial properties. It is also well documented that microcurrent applied to the skin stimulates muscle with the preferential use of fast twitch muscle fibers compared with the normal initiation of slow twitch muscle fibers.

In response to a need that Ion’s founder, Dr. Scott Sheftel, M.D., identified in his practice, Ion’s first product is a bioelectric sock. Patients of Dr. Sheftel would often complain about excessive sweating (a condition called Hyperhydrosis), phantom pain in their feet (a condition called neuropathy), and, of course, toenail and foot fungi. The observation of pervasive foot problems in Dr. Sheftel’s patients are consistent with national data. Almost 80% of Americans over the age of 21 have experienced a foot problem at some point in their life. Ion’s sock is designed to help people with these problems at a fraction of the cost of other treatments. Even people who do not suffer from foot issues will find that their feet feel better and they can stand, work and exercise longer than they can with traditional athletic or compression socks.
